#15 | FIRE up your body: Fitness facts

Much of our lives are focused on saving energy. We switch off lights (or geysers) (or heaters) when we don’t need them. We insulate our houses so heat will not escape easily. We drive our cars carefully to save fuel.

So, it is a bit strange to suddenly have to think in “reverse gear”, trying to increase the rate at which our bodies burn energy. But let us try.

To increase the speed at which a fire burns, you have some options:

  • Add air: Fanning the flames makes the fire burn a lot hotter
  • Add fuel: The more fuel, the hotter and faster the fire burns
  • Remove carbon dioxide: Carbon dioxide smothers a fire
